бактерии, осуществляющие хемосинтез (см. хемосинтез). Х.б. не являются единой в таксономическом отношении группой, а систематизируются в зависимости от окисляемого неорганического субстрата. Аэробные Х.б. (водородные, нитрифицирующие, тионовые и др.) усваивают СО2 так же, как при фотосинтезе; анаэробные Х.б. восстанавливают соединения серы и СО2. Х.б. имеют важное значение для с. х-ва: нитрифицирующие почвенные бактерии (см. нитрифицирующие бактерии) образуют нитраты из аммония (см. нитрификация), серные бактерии (см. серные бактерии) участвуют в образовании в почве доступных для растений сульфатов, метанобразующие бактерии (см. метанобразующие бактерии) используются для получения биогаза из органических отходов; играют важную роль в биогеохимических циклах в биосфере.Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
